As Expected (a poem)

As Expected (a poem)

Vacant service
left because
the mind vacated,
and nothing
replaced it.
No one told me
it would be like this,
the changes
that make no differences,
the people
that cause no difference.
Sceptics grinning
at their expectations
coming alive for those
blind to their impending
funerals and burials.
No one said
chances taken
would be so rare,
the culture by day
to be so taxing
on the spirit
until the time
cannot be relied upon
as a gift
and falls away,
as expected.
