Point (a poem)

When food isn’t a list
Items to cost and budget
Tally on thin paper
Logos, brands and locations
Registers debits, deals
Customary thanks for saving
Objects wrapped in packaging.

When food isn’t a chore
Items to pick and store
Tally on calorie counter
Labels, boxes and luggages
Registers data, diets
Customary profits for investors
Objects added in routine.

When food isn’t a meal
Items to chew and swallow
Tally on carbon footprint
Lands, bins and leftovers
Registers debt, deaths
Customary figures for replacing
Objects destroyed in consuming.

When food isn’t enough
Items to grow and waste
Tally on production sheets
Losses, bodies and lies
Registers defeat, desolation
Customary products for trading
Objects prepared in poison.
